Monday April 15th

Today we had many appointments to finalize the adoption.  We went to many offices and completed paperwork.
Emmie is such a sweet baby.  She is very socially engaging - laughs, has great eye contact and imitates.  She is having some challenges eating/drinking.  At 14 months she never had solid food.  They only ever gave her a bottle mixed with rice cereal.  And our little girl is very particular about how she likes that bottle prepared - thick and warm/hot.  It's hard to get the rice cereal to dissolve enough that it's not too thick so we went with Mary to an RT Mart (like Walmart) and bought new bottles that we could also enlarge the hold at the top.
We are having some challenges eating too : ) - surprisingly there are actually few vegetarians in cities in China.  They even put minced pork/meat in the rice.  When we went to the hotel buffet in the hotel the white rice was practically the only thing Michael and I could eat that was vegetarian so we decided we need to eat fish while we are here.  The Chinese beer Tsing Tao is free at the buffet but you have to pay for a coke!
The city is very different than Beijing.  The traffic is crazy and not orderly.  Another guy here adopting from our agency, Mike, said it's like the game frogger dodging the cars, mopeds, bikes, etc. to cross multiple lanes.  They don't even stop for you if you are carrying a baby or stroller.  The video below is a less busy street outside the hotel coffee shop - image doubling that, four lanes and having to cross with no traffic lights or cross walks-!  Because few people speak English and the streets are intimidating with the traffic we are mostly staying in the hotel except when we go out with our guide.  We are here until Friday as we wait for the notarized paperwork and passport to be prepared.
