Wednesday April 17th

We were excited to go to a field trip and get out of the hotel today after being cooped up.  Went with Mary's colleague Helen and Mike and his daughter, Kona, to a place called the Pavillion.  It is high up on a hill with many steps overlooking the beautiful scenary.  After climing many many steps to the top,  there was a show with traditional Chinese singing and dancing at 11 am.  Then we explored the rest of the buildling which is like a museum.  Afterwards Helen took us to a Chinese restaurant.  There are shelves of many dishes all prepared to look at and live fish in the tanks to choose.  You pick out what you want (thankfully Helen was there to order for us) and then they bring it to your table.  The food was delicious and was great to try new things.
In the afternoon Maddie had a playdate at the pool with Jonathan so Michael took her and Emmie and I met them down there.  Emmie is doing better now taking the bottle - each day seems easier thankfully.   She was initially more attached to me (which is normal) but is bonding with Michael too.  And she loves Maddie who has been a great big sister.  Maddie turned on a kids cartoon in Chinese and said, "Mommy, Emmie likes to hear Chinese because it makes her feel safe."  And one day Emmie was crying and she said I know what will make her stop, and pulled out a feather/quill for calligraphy that the swi Director had given Emmie as a gift.  Maddie was right:  Emmie instantly stopped crying.
